These polished Obsidian grid plates have the Flower of Life or pentacle carved into them. There is much meaning and lore to the pentacle through the ages. There are 2 symbols, pentacle and pentagram, that are interchangeably mixed erroneously. A pentacle is a 5 pointed star inside a circle, a pentagram is a 5 pointed star without a circle.

The points of the star represent the four elements (water, fire, earth, air) and ether (spirit). It represents how these elements live in harmony. The elements start at the top right point and go around anticlockwise until it reaches the top with spirit. The symbol has had many meanings to different culture and religions over the years. In fact, it was a symbol of the Catholic Church for over 500 years after the death of Christ. It was worn as jewellery and could be seen on shields and other items for protection.

The pentacle was a positive symbol until 1855 when a French Catholic Deacon was excommunicated from the church for his interest in magic. It was he who made the pentacle a symbol of evil and turned it upside down. 

Today it gets mixed reactions from people. However, its roots are steeped in religion and paganism, which are positive. It is also said to represent the feminine.

The Flower of Life symbol is found throughout the world and is one of the sacred geometry symbols. It symbolizes creation, unity and reminds us that we all come from the same place. Everything in the universe can be found in this common repeating sacred pattern.
